Warm spring and summer days return
To banish winter’s icy hold
I greet new opening buds of lupine
Softening lines of pond and meadow
Poppies blazing up steep hillsides
Bleak one wintry week ago.

Let us walk awhile and chuckle
With the brook’s new bubbling laughter
Bring with us both pad and basket
Laden with good food and cheer
We’ll stay up late to count the stars
Then warmly welcome spring’s new dawn

And from our niche above the field
We’ll watch an ever-forming fabric
Woven from soft verdant hues
Of living grasses, fronds and moss
As sun moves shadows, light across
We’ll lose ourselves in spring renewed
